Sonesta ES Suites Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile (ex. Residence Inn by Marriott Chicago Downtown

The walls were so thin I could clearly hear the person next door snoring, and there was a strong sewage smell in the room. I couldn't sleep at all. I had booked 4 nights, but the conditions made the room unlivable, so I left after the first night at 6 a.m. My checkout was NOT voluntary. I asked for a refund and sent the front desk manager two detailed emails explaining what happened, with photos, but got zero response. This stay was a complete disaster. I'll also be reporting the hotel to the Chicago Department of Public Health about the sewage odor. If you've had something similar happen, I strongly suggest you do the same.

The Chicago location has been great for us, close to shops and restaurants, and the staff are always smiling and ready to help. We’re a family of five and love having two rooms, a big living room, and a full kitchen, with everything a family needs. We’ve stayed at Sonesta ES Suites before in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in different seasons over two years, and we’re always happy to come back to our favorite family suites. Thanks for making our Chicago trip even better.

The location worked well for us, just four minutes from Shirley Ryan Abilitylab, and breakfast was decent. The potatoes were delicious, though the warmers sometimes left the sausage cold. The rooms were okay, but the beds were only 5/10. In the accessible kitchen room there’s no oven, unlike the other rooms, and the can opener was very hard to use. I wish they’d put an air fryer on the counter instead. The soap kept falling down, so wall mounted dispensers would be better. The elevators are too small to fit a wheelchair or large walker, a trolley, and another person together. We have a child who uses a walker, and I can’t imagine managing the trip alone with my son and all our belongings without my husband. Parking was $70 a day, which is insane, especially for a longer stay. It’s hard to park there, and GPS doesn’t bring you right to the place you need because of the location. When we asked for our vehicle, the valet staff weren’t told right away and sometimes we waited 10-15 minutes. They need more help. I wish it were more affordable so we could bring our son for intensive therapy more often. At the price we paid, we’ll book an Airbnb next time.

I booked a room for June 4 to June 6 and later asked to change the dates, but was told that couldn’t be done. Could you explain why the reservation dates can’t be changed? I’d appreciate help finding a solution. Thank you in advance for your response. Best regards, Alexandr
