What really made the stay for me was Shianne. She was hospitable every night we interacted, and did her best to help me get what I wanted from the booking. That’s why I gave the stay an 8/10. I wanted a couple of days away from the stresses of my life, especially with a deep cold snap expected in Chicago the third weekend of January 2026. Temperatures were forecast to dip into the negative thirties, and my 150-plus-year-old family home on the South Side wasn’t going to be comfortable. I booked January 24-26, hoping to miss the coldest part. I searched discount travel sites for somewhere near restaurants, transit, and the Chicago Loop, with a tub, two full-size beds, and Wi-Fi. I also wanted to avoid a big deposit and keep the whole trip under $300. Of my three finalists, Travelodge seemed to fit everything best. The others were near Chinatown and in the Loop. I’d checked in online and was assigned room 323, but it wasn’t what I expected. It was spacious and had full beds, but the closets were awkwardly placed, the kitchen seemed like it belonged in a closet, and there was no tub. I went back to ask Shianne about another room. She checked the system and was just as puzzled that 323 had no tub, especially after I showed her a photo of the shower. She moved me to 605. The layout and space were much better, with a larger kitchen, a roomy main area, and a nice bathroom with a tub. But the beds had changed from full to double. I figured the mix-up might be on my end, and I was grateful for the nicer room, so I accepted it. There was plenty I liked: fast Wi-Fi, comfortable beds, a deep, nicely sized tub, lots of room in the kitchen, and even CNBC on the digital channels. I ate dinner after checking in and breakfast the next morning at restaurants downstairs in the same building. The staff everywhere were friendly. My smaller criticisms aside, I had a great stay and would come back, especially thanks to the team and Shianne. Maybe in a warmer month, though.
The room was basic but clean and did the job. Mine was on the 12th floor facing Wabash Avenue, with an amazing downtown skyline view. I got a double room and early check-in for just over $100 a night during the middle of the week, which felt like a great price. The hotel is also on the same street as the Greyhound station, handy for my commute, and there are lots of good food options within a 10-minute walk. It’s a block from the Harrison Red Line stop and about a 20-minute walk from the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, and the Art Museum. I had some trouble with payment at check-in, but the staff were extremely patient and helpful. The rest of the stay was just as good. There’s a window AC unit above the radiator for heat. I’ll absolutely book here again next time I’m in Chicago.
For $77 a night all in, November 23-26, 2025, this was great value for the location. The staff were excellent, especially Maria, who was awesome. Thanks for a great stay! My king room was fine for one person. Couples should know it’s on the small side, though not tight, especially if you both bring a lot and want your own desk. There’s only one desk. The bathroom works for one person at a time, except someone can use the toilet while the other is showering. The hotel is about 1 km east of a Red Line stop. The area didn’t feel unsafe, but I’d stay alert at night and avoid getting drunk, since you could be taken advantage of. There are lots of universities on the block, with security staff and cameras around.
I checked out early because I couldn’t stay there. The room was old, with stains all over the floor, and the shower needed a deep clean. The air conditioning looked like it was from the 1980s, and the building was overdue for an upgrade. Customer service was awful too. They wouldn’t let me leave my luggage when I arrived early, so I had to drag it around until check-in. The worst hotel I’ve stayed at. Stay away.
The location is fantastic for staying downtown, and there’s a subway stop a block away if you’d rather ride than walk or take Lyft to other parts of town. The rooms are a bit dated, but clean, and the beds were comfortable. We stayed a week, and the staff were friendly and very helpful the whole time.
