Holiday Inn Express & Suites Childress By IHG

This is the worst Holiday Inn I’ve stayed at. The place is run down, and breakfast is awful, with rotten fruit put out. My room never gets properly cleaned; they just make the bed. A trash truck also arrives every day at 5:30 a.m. and wakes me up.

I always stay here when I drive from SE Texas to Colorado, but I’m trying to plan a May trip and can’t find any availability after April. Is the hotel closing? Does anyone know?

The bathroom was a decent size, but I couldn’t get my wheelchair inside and shut the door, so there was no privacy. The toilet wasn’t ADA height, and the grab bars didn’t help. I could get onto the toilet on my own but couldn’t get off without help. The sink’s soap and lotion dispensers were mounted too high to reach from my chair. In the bathtub there were grab bars, but no shower seat, and the soap dispenser was again out of reach when seated. My husband and I had requested an accessible room with no other requests. When we first opened the door, the room’s size seemed promising. Most of the floor was carpet, though, which took much more strength to roll across. The bed was also quite high compared with a wheelchair, making a transfer difficult. If you need an accessible room, I’d call and discuss your needs before booking.

Friendly staff, a room layout that worked well, and a good range of breakfast choices.
