Ramada by Wyndham Clarion

The covered indoor courtyard has a pool, and although you can hear voices from it in the rooms, it closes at 10 pm and things are quiet after that. Both clerks we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. The room was clean and looked after, though a little dated. The outside could use some paint and general cleanup. Breakfast was decent and included eggs, bacon or sausage, fried potatoes, yogurt, toast, bagels, juice, coffee, and tea. We booked online easily and had asked for two queens. At check-in we were put on the second floor, which has no elevator. My 83-year-old mother can’t manage many steps, so I asked about moving downstairs. Even though they were fully booked, the clerk found us a first-floor room. Thank you. We’d stay here again if we’re back in the area.

The bacon at breakfast was the best I’ve ever had. The rest of the food was just okay, and the restaurant and bar have both been closed for two years, even though the bar looks like it ought to be in use. It’s an old hotel that needs updating, but it still has some charm. The indoor pool sits in a cool, terrarium-like courtyard, and it was surprisingly quiet despite being right beside the road. My bed was too hard for me, and there were stains on the floor, curtains, chairs, and bathtub. I wouldn’t take a bath in that tub.

The pool area is cute, and breakfast was good. Staff were friendly, and the hotel is close to restaurants and shopping. The building looks worn from outside, with peeling paint, but the redone lobby seemed promising. Our room was okay and matched the advertised photos. The way there was filthy, though, with old, smelly carpet. The room itself wasn’t too bad, and the linens were Wyndham clean. There was no room information booklet. When we asked, we were told they don’t provide those anymore. The phone to the front desk didn’t work either. The shower has a sliding barn-style door, and you have to step inside to turn on the water, so you can’t let it warm up first. Its floor was extremely slippery. Bring extra towels. We didn’t get housekeeping, perhaps it was their day off, and we heard they’re having trouble finding staff. There were dispensers for laundry detergent, but no washer or dryer. It looks like those were removed and recycling bins put in their place. The photos suggested a nice Wyndham stay, but it felt like a bait and switch. I know they’re spending a lot on the property, but it needs much more work. Underneath the Wyndham photos, it’s a very run-down hotel. I wouldn’t return.

The bed was comfortable, it was quiet, and the place was pretty clean. I did notice that the mini fridge hadn’t been defrosted in years and still had food from a previous guest. Some lights didn’t work, and the deadbolt wouldn’t latch, which was the biggest issue. Otherwise, I had no problems. The indoor courtyard, full of huge tropical plants, is really neat.
