Echo Sails Motel

The pool was clean, and the beach is right across the street, which made the location a big plus. Our room was spotless, the bed was comfortable, and the owner was kind and accommodating. Just know this is a bare-bones motel: there were no dishes, soap, paper towels, or similar supplies, so bring your own. The checkout photos look a bit messy, but the room was much tidier when we arrived.

The pool filter seemed to be off much of the time, and the room door was once unlocked when I came back from the beach. We also had no broom for sweeping sand, no maid service, and no clean towels were offered. The room was very sparsely equipped: despite being advertised as having a full kitchen, it had only a small fridge and microwave, with no plates, bowls, or silverware in the many cabinets. At 1 a.m. on our third day, my smoke alarm went off, so I called 911. It apparently had malfunctioned. The manager was angry that I called, removed the faulty alarm, and never replaced it. At check-in he was rude, and it took two days for him to accept our card payment. We’d stayed at Echo sails many times over the years, but with the new owners, we won’t be back.

The rooms are cute and clean, but ours had no hot water. Staff said maintenance would come the next day, which made it seem like the problem was already known when we checked in. They asked us to shower in another room instead of moving us there, then the next day the issue still wasn’t fixed. We were moved to a smaller room with no price change. After we went out for the day, we returned to find our room unlocked and entered. They said they were checking whether we had checked out, and left it unlocked all day. Some outlets didn’t work, and neither did the refrigerator. The owner just made excuses and blamed booking.com.

I felt safe here and would happily stay again. Parking was plentiful, and the staff were amazing. There’s a clear guest policy posted outside. The pool was clean and inviting, and you can cross the street to reach the beach. There’s also water on the hotel side, so the view is lovely. The room looked small from outside, but it was actually quite big, with a comfortable bed and great shower pressure. I was only there for the weekend.
