The Luckman Apartments by Barsala

We had so many problems in our unit: the blinds were ripped off the window, the kitchen sink backed up because the disposal didn't work, and the door plate came off completely, exposing a cracked door. The room didn't feel secure, and I wouldn't have stayed if my husband hadn't been with me. It would be a female solo traveler's worst nightmare. I would never stay in another Barsala managed property.

The place was quiet, clean, and more comfortable than my own home, with a beautiful view and tons of space. The studio was immaculate and gorgeously furnished, with fluffy towels, every amenity I wanted, and even sparkling water waiting. All I needed to bring was myself. There's an awesome selection of TV channels, plus a gym, courtyard, dog run, tennis court, and plenty more. The location is near everything, and it was affordable. The key kiosk made check-in convenient: I could arrive anytime without waiting at a desk. Highly recommend, and I'll be back!

The pictures are enticing, but the place was disgusting and not thoroughly cleaned. On my first day, before I'd even brought in food, I saw a roach in the kitchen. Security didn't greet me or make me feel secure, and communication was bad all around. They did make sure to send review links the day I left, though. My AirPods and brand-new sunglasses were stolen. I'm certain it was housekeeping. About 20 minutes after checkout, I realized the AirPods were missing and went back upstairs. Housekeeping was already in the room, gave me attitude, and said, “they're not here.” I can see their location in the building, and they had been taken out of the case. What a joke. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Room 620 seemed to be mid-remodel, with a lot of unfinished or broken things: no toilet paper or towel holders, one set of blinds off the window and leaning against the wall, a second set broken, a router lying on the ground, and broken wall sections that had been repaired but not painted. The deadbolt lock faceplate had come off, the garbage disposal didn't work, and there was nowhere to unpack clothes beyond two small nightstands. In the kitchen there was just one teaspoon and no paper towels. The window had black markings. There were plenty of other smaller issues too. The location was handy, close to Playhouse Square. The football stadium and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame were 20-30 minutes away on foot. There's a small market across the street, and a better, larger one called DGX one block north. A Chinese restaurant is right next door.
