2/27-2/28/26: The strong shower pressure is a welcome comfort for now. We’re in a temporary place, in a peaceful room, while the world brings breaking news, and we’re holding on to hope. I woke up to news of war in the Middle East and immediately thought, Jesus is coming back soon! “When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be afraid” (Mark 13:7). So I am holding my peace! We needed somewhere for two nights because our next Airbnb isn’t ready until March 1st, and this hotel allows dogs. For us, that’s a requirement, not a minor detail. I prayed the room wouldn’t smell like a zoo, and the Lord answered. It smells clean, feels newly opened, and there’s no sign of previous animals. The carpet is clean too. I’m keeping a close eye on my dog, but so far he’s behaving great. He’s a great dog to travel with. After leaving our glorious Airbnb near Las Olas Blvd, we escaped just before the spring breakers arrived. I survived that situation last year, and this time I said, like Paul in the Bible, “I know when to leave” (very loose translation with wisdom 😄). A small detour and the classic “this GPS is taking us to heaven but not to the hotel” made the drive about 48 minutes. The area is quiet, very different from where we came from. Soft pastel colors and a peaceful atmosphere greet you. The decor feels like Psalm 23: “He leads me beside still waters.” My husband was attended quickly, and room #309 was ready. First we took the dog for a bathroom break, then headed upstairs. Our view is technically the highway, but the trees in front cover a lot of it. Green is better than concrete and little cars flying like they’re late for the rapture. The room is very spacious, with a full kitchen and dishes, a big refrigerator, and a genuinely roomy bathroom. That’s a gift after the tiny Airbnb bathroom where turning around took prayer and strategy. I took a long shower, the kind that makes you forgive everyone and speak in gratitude. I loved the little tissue paper flower left by the room attendant and the neatly folded kitchen towels. I always notice those things. They say someone cared. “Whatever you do, do it with all your heart” (Colossians 3:23), even when folding towels for tired travelers. There’s a small marketplace in the lobby with essentials, plus a laundry room. Bring detergent or buy it downstairs. Breakfast is available 7am to 9am on weekdays and until 9:30am on weekends. Be there on time, they clean up in time. We rest, give thanks, and remember, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
