The room was nice and the service was great, but the price felt too high without a clearer warning about the noise. I was in town for a conference and hoped to catch up on sleep away from my one-year-old. Instead, a loud train horn woke me three times in the middle of the night, more often than my baby does.

The internet was terrible, which is my one real criticism. I also don't understand the parking complaints, since the skywalk is easy to find and very convenient. I used to guide campus tours for three years, so I saw more of campus than most people outside facilities staff. I also stayed at the old MSC hotel a few times around '06-07, lol. This new hotel is mind-blowingly awesome. The staff are amazing, and the facilities upgrade is one of the top three in the past two decades, right up there with the Mays and Zachary rebuilds and rebrands. I'll be raving about it for a while.

Our room, 330, was clean and had complimentary water and coffee, which mattered since the coffee pots in the conference area were often empty. When I reported a leaky shower, the front office got it fixed straight away. Staff also found tables for our silent auction setup on Wednesday, even though it sounded like we used up the hotel's entire supply. Those were bright spots, along with the ear plugs they provided. We stayed with a friend at the Texas A&M Conference Hotel for a large conference of over 500 attendees. As locals, we were excited to stay on campus and avoid the traffic around our hometown, but we left disappointed. The catering operation wasn't ready for the crowd over those two days: food ran short, lines were long, trays stayed empty, and refills couldn't keep up. One exhausted staff member said it was the biggest crowd they'd ever had. There weren't enough serving stations, and the team was overwhelmed. Reception told me on Wednesday that both my roommate and I would have free in-and-out parking. On the final bill Sunday, only one parking space was complimentary. I called accounting Monday morning to correct it and was still waiting for a reply two days later. We also never got the digital key to work. The room was noisy all the time. You could hear the trains, the hotel's mechanical equipment, and the parking lot right outside our windows. On Saturday around 10:00 PM, a collegiate Hockey team checked in. I guessed that, with an early flight Sunday, they decided to party in the halls all night. We had noise on both sides. I had asked for a no-pet floor, too, but a guest with a large dog went into the room two doors down. Thankfully, the dog was quiet. If you book here, I'd ask for a room facing Kyle Field. I imagine that side might be quieter and offer a better chance of a restful night. I hope this feedback helps, and I offer it sincerely and with appreciation.

The weak basic internet was frustrating for watching video. Streams kept stopping, and the basic service isn't suitable for streaming. Business internet might work fine. Earplugs come with a whimsical note about the train beside the hotel, and light sleepers should use them. The 5am whistle was a dependable alarm, and the 6am ROTC workouts on the field may wake you too. There were two lamp bulbs missing, so I borrowed bulbs from other fixtures to get the bedside lamp working. Housekeeping should catch that on a checklist. Otherwise, the room was clean, recently renovated, nicely designed, and spacious, with a good bathroom. The friendly concierge was proactive, a rare find in hotels these days. Thanks to SEAN for helping out, and for wearing the best looking A&M jacket I've seen in a while. The front of the house did a great job. You can't beat the Kyle field location. There is plenty of self parking, with direct hotel access from the covered garage, which keeps the car cooler on hot days. Those little issues wouldn't put me off. Great spot, just be aware of them.

The staff and conference center made everything run smoothly, and the food was fantastic. Coffee breaks kept us buzzing, and the snacks had us grazing like happy herbivores. Lunch and dinner brought people to the buffet like it was peak bird season. By the third day, choosing a seat felt competitive. I wasn't staying at the hotel, but spent three full days there for the Texas Master Naturalist conference. The conference rooms were so comfortable that even this group of naturalists, who usually think walls are optional, didn't complain about being indoors. The AV worked perfectly every time. The only bugs were the ones we wanted to identify. At dusk we went outside as a group to hunt moths with blacklights and UV lights. Guests passing by looked unsure if we were opening a nightclub or running an insect crime lab. Either way, we had a moth-nificent time and no regrets. Five stars, and I'd gladly return. Next time I might bring binoculars, a field guide, and maybe a net, since you never know what might turn up around the landscaping.
