Breakfast was pretty good, and the view from my brother’s room was nice. The windows opened, which worked well for his room facing the river and mountains. Mine looked onto a busy highway, so I heard traffic constantly. I’m still not sure why my room cost considerably more. The pool was closed for what sounded like the foreseeable future. The “gym” was a closet with a few machines, and room service meant a food truck in the parking lot. My room started out a little dusty and dirty, and nobody cleaned it during my four nights, even though I’m usually a pretty tidy person. The daily cleaning should have been a plus. On day two, the sink in my family’s room came apart. The maintenance person was on vacation, so nothing could be done. I also thought I’d have access to the pool and hot tub, but they were closed. I don’t want to sound like a snob, but oof. You get what you pay for, and we paid for a three-star hotel, which feels generous. Here’s a photo of me in an Asian plushy I didn’t understand, plus the view from my brother’s room and me hanging out in my king room.

I’d stayed away because of the bad reviews, but they didn’t match my experience. The front desk was great, and there was coffee and water in the lobby. My room was clean and up to date. The pool was being refurbished. I didn’t try breakfast because I had an early checkout. No voucher guests was safe not far for food.

The rooms were outdated and dirty, with uncomfortable beds and pillows that need replacing. I found black hairs on the bed, in the bathroom, and around the room, along with stains on the floors. The TV kept cutting in and out, the window screen was torn, the bathroom fan was loud, and the AC didn’t work. Maintenance seemed behind, though housekeeping appeared to do their best. I chose this hotel because I live in Colorado Springs, grew up here, and had stayed before. It was cheap and included breakfast. I expected the pool and hot tub to be available, but both were closed. Reviews suggested they’d been closed since August, and another guest had been told the chemicals were off. They must still be trying to sort it out. There are cheaper places nearby with friendlier staff. The one good thing was that I didn’t have to pay for my stay. On the second day, I went grocery shopping and came back to find that someone had checked me out while my belongings were still in the room. The front desk employee was supposedly given my first name and room number. Before I left, I’d asked the woman at the desk what time checkout was and told her I’d be leaving the next day. Some of my things remained in the closet and drawers, but housekeeping had thrown my bathroom items away and started cleaning. She didn’t speak English, and my high-school Spanish is very broken. She kept avoiding me. I went downstairs to ask who had checked me out, what the checkout policy was, and what the protocol is for cleaning after a guest leaves. While I waited, the front desk woman was scolding another guest over a stain on a pillowcase. The pillowcases weren’t nice or new. It felt like guests were always in the wrong, and she was curt and hostile with me, making me feel as if I’d done something wrong when I hadn’t. At checkout, I asked for her name so I could tell management what had happened. The manager herself was at the desk. She’d already checked me out without asking my name or room number, didn’t introduce herself, and didn’t seem concerned that this wasn’t okay. When I asked for the employee’s name and her supervisor from the previous day, she said she’d handle it and that I could email her. I then explained my frustration in detail. I used to think of this place as cheap with breakfast. Instead, the walls and a lock on the door were about the only comforts, and even your belongings don’t feel safe if staff can let themselves in whenever. It’s a step up from being homeless, I suppose.

The hot tub is always broken, so they should take it off the website. During our stay, a whole youth sports team arrived on a tour bus and was loud. The walls between rooms are paper thin. Our non-smoking room smelled like smoke, and I woke up with my throat and nose clogged. There were several smaller problems too: the room lock didn’t work consistently, and the broken shower curtain rod meant I couldn’t keep water off the floor.

The staff were nice, and breakfast was good. The shower had hot water too, when it was working. I really wanted to give this place three stars, but I can’t. It’s dated, the rooms and hallways had bad ucan't, and the TVs looked like they were from the early 2000s. The grounds, especially the path out back, have a lot of potential. I had to get to Denver for a 710am flight. At 315 am, I was in the shower all lathered up when the water shut off for about 45 minutes to an hour. I think a pipe burst. Good staff and breakfast go a long way, but that was disappointing.
