Garden of the Gods Motel

Being close to Old Colorado City was a real plus, and Trails End Taproom next door was one of my Colorado highlights. The room was acceptable, and at least the air conditioner worked, though it smelled bad. With no window screens, there were lots of bugs. Our lock quit working when its battery died, but they fixed it, and nothing was stolen while it was out. The gentleman was nice, which is why I gave the motel an extra star, but omma seemed checked out. The welcome bags are a nice idea, though asking for bottled water after the first day, when it’s included in those bags, got us told to leave. It made us feel unwelcome if we stayed longer than a night.

We spent a week here and found the room very clean, with friendly, attentive staff. Our flight was delayed, so we checked in late, but the man still handed each of us a goody bag with snacks, fruit, and water. I’d recommend staying here and would come back.

The bed was firm but comfortable, and the shower was just right, hot water and plenty of pressure. The room was clean, nicely furnished, and looked recently renovated, with a soft, fairly new carpet. I also appreciated the pool lift for someone who uses a wheelchair. It says a lot that the proprietors thought of people who need it. We arrived around 2 a.m. after calling several nearby motels. I’d woken the proprietor with my call, and our conversation about a room for the rest of the night and the next night was a little confusing. He said there was a room, and we got there about five minutes later. The gentleman who met me was polite despite the hour, and gave each of us bottled water and snacks after our long drive. We’d stay again if we were nearby, and I recommend it.

The sunset from the balcony was incredible, even though the listing only mentioned a mountain view. Our double king room was comfortable, clean, and nicely put together, with lovely scented shower products. The owners were very accommodating, and the welcome snack bag was a thoughtful touch. I’m glad we stayed here. The motel name really doesn’t do the accommodations justice compared with many hotels I’ve tried.
