Hyatt Place Columbia/Downtown/The Vista

I spent two weeks here after moving from Germany, while I waited for my home to be ready. Kenisha and Mya Torres were especially helpful, always going the extra mile whenever I had a question or concern. That made my time in both the hotel and Columbia so much better. The rooms are nice, the location worked perfectly, and the staff's hospitality made the stay. I’d definitely recommend it.

The lobby is attractive and has plenty of space to gather, with convenient parking right outside. There are also lots of restaurants within walking distance. The breakfast was the usual hotel spread, eggs, cereal, fruit, bagels, toast, and the breakfast staff were very friendly. Our corner room had two queen beds and a little sitting area with a pullout bed. It seemed a bit bigger than most rooms. Campus was about a 5-8 minute drive, depending where you’re headed. I’d stay here again if I’m back in the area.

The room was small, but comfortable and clean, and we slept well after the Jonas Brothers concert. It had two beds and a couch that could be used as an extra bed. Breakfast was included, and there were lots of choices, including pancakes, which I liked even though the edges were a bit crisp and hard to cut. Checkout was easy. They also gave each guest two waters and a free snack when we checked in, and the luggage carts helped us get our bags upstairs, though they were so wide we had to squeeze one into the room. We came with my aunt and Mom on Thursday November 6th 2025, driving about two hours from where I live so we wouldn’t have to drive home sleepy. The hotel is near downtown, around 10 minutes from colonial Life Arena, with food nearby. There’s parking at the hotel or in a garage. When we arrived at 2:25PM, our room wasn’t ready. They switched us to another room and asked if we wanted a high floor, but we still waited what felt like 30 minutes. The receptionist seemed new or in training, which was okay, but later she wasn’t very helpful when my aunt asked about food, and her directions about the assigned garage parking were vague. It was our first time in Columbia, so more explanation would’ve helped. We found a food options pamphlet in the room and headed to the concert. Getting back and finding our spot in the garage turned out fine. There’s also a lobby restaurant with drinks and some food, though I’m not sure if they serve more than appetizers. Breakfast runs from 6-9AM, so we had to get up early. I’d consider staying here again for another concert in columbia.

The layout feels dated. The sink is in the shared room area, while the toilet and tub sit behind a glass barn door, so if two people keep different schedules, one can wake the other. The rooms themselves are well maintained. I’m a Hyatt Globalist and booked with points, so I expected parking to be free on an award night. Instead, self parking was charged at $18/nt, and I still need to call the Hyatt concierge about it. The location is convenient if you need to be nearby, though Columbia’s small enough that you could save money by staying somewhere else if the parking cost matters. I’d come back, since the next Hyatt is 15 minutes west by a cracker barrel in the “boonies”.
