The Broadway Columbia - a DoubleTree by Hilton

We booked this hotel for the rooftop bar so we could have drinks without driving, but nobody told us online that it would be closed all weekend for a private event. The lobby restaurant closed by 9:30 p.m. and didn’t have everything on the menu. Only one elevator was working for the whole hotel, and we got locked in the stairwell when we didn’t want to wait another ten minutes for it. After we paid extra for a late checkout, our card was turned off and we couldn’t get back into the room. The Wi-Fi dropped every ten minutes, and the lobby smelled like a fart the whole time. Hold your breath walking in. We’ve been Hilton Honors members for years, but we’ll never return to this one. It was our worst Hilton stay. Dan, our breakfast waiter, was the only good part. He was kind and hardworking, maybe the only hard worker there.

I attended the Columbia Chamber of Commerce 2026 Leadership retreat here for the first time and was truly impressed. Jared Klarfeld did a phenomenal job getting the space ready and making sure every need was covered. The staff were kind and attentive throughout, and the place felt warm and inviting. The food was excellent, including meats cooked to suit different preferences, a thoughtful touch. My room was clean, quiet, and spacious. Parking in the Short Street garage was easy, though the spaces are small and might be tight for large vehicles. I have high standards, and this stay delivered. I’d gladly return and recommend it.

We had a king room with a sleeper sofa, which worked great for our small family, and it was easy to head out on foot and explore downtown. Parking at the hotel was just $5, a welcome change from what similar places charge in bigger cities. The room rate seemed fair for what we got, though it jumps noticeably when Columbia gets busy. The Broadway gave us a fantastic stay, from the polished-looking lobby and thoughtfully designed room to the rooftop bar with its DJ and the food. I'm glad I got to experience it before our time in Columbia is over.

The rooms, location, parking, and safety were all good, and the front desk staff were willing to help. The restaurant and bar are a different story. The servers are very sweet, but the place is regularly a mess and service often feels like nobody trained them. If turnover is the issue, address it. If the food costs more to make well, charge more, but stop serving frozen junk. And if you're short staffed, get everyone involved. Food is part of what you expect at a higher-end hotel. Hilton needs to deliver on that.
