Hampton Inn & Suites Columbus/University Area

The shower was a highlight, with very hot water, and the breakfast was pretty good. I did wish there were more waffle toppings than just butter and raspberry sauce. It's a typical Hampton in a convenient spot near Ohio state and the James. The rooms look modern and haven't taken much wear. A few things bothered me: the doors slam, though mine weren't loud enough to wake me as some people have said; the heat was noisy, so I turned it down; and the clock in my room didn't work. Still, it was a good stay.

For what they charge each night, I'm not sure this is the best choice. I've stayed twice, but will probably try somewhere else next time. The rooms look dated, with carpet tiles fraying, and the beds are creaky and springy, like they've seen better days. At noon, when checkout usually happens, I arrived hoping for an early check-in and waited almost 20 minutes with two other people. The front desk attendant was nowhere around. A crew member said he'd let them know, but no one came. Another man walked out from the back, got a drink from the staff fridge, and went back. We waited another five to ten minutes before the desk staff finally came down from near the elevators.

We've stayed here several times over the years for appointments at Ross hospital. The rooms have always been nice, and the staff friendly. I'm sure we'll be back. Good job, everyone!

The pet-friendly setup worked out great for us, and the hotel was so clean I couldn't tell pets had stayed there. We were glad to bring our dog along. There were also plenty of good nearby places for lunch and dinner. The pool and gym were clean, as was the rest of the hotel. I do wish there'd been a hot tub. Breakfast was decent and stayed stocked right up to half an hour before closing, including eggs, potatoes, and breakfast meat on both days. Hot coffee, tea supplies, and hot chocolate were available around the clock. Everyone at the desk was genuinely kind and caring. I didn't catch all the names, but Victor and Julia talked with us and were especially nice. I loved the stay for my birthday weekend and would come again.
