Travel Plaza Inn

I like being able to check in pretty much any time, and the rates are reasonable. The rooms are spacious too, though cleanliness is hit or miss, some are clean and some are really dirty. Don’t count on getting a full 8hrs of sleep here. I’ve seen a lot go down in the parking lot, but I haven’t personally had any problems.

The inside was clean and newly painted, but the furnishings looked like a mix of garage sale finds or even trash. Old mattresses had been dumped in the driveway. I should’ve paid more attention to the huge “NO REFUNDS” sign. This place feels ghetto, and there are prostitutes lining the street a couple blocks away. There were no fitted sheets, hand towels, or washcloths, and you have to go to the front desk to get the one available iron. Gang encryption on the vanity and mirror freaked me out. It also felt like people lived there. Late at night some people hung around on the balcony, yelling to each other and staring at you. Different people kept watching me come and go. Creepy place. The review I read here was probably written by a friend of the establishment.

The staff are great, and the rooms are decent and clean. Claudia, who I believe is the manager, is especially nice and helpful. The part you need to know about is the police. As soon as you park, they may pull you out of your car, cuff you, put you in their car, and search your vehicle thoroughly without your permission. If they don’t find any meth, they let you go. According to my experience, this will happen during your stay regardless of who you are, and the police are always coming and going. If you can deal with that, it’s the perfect place for the area.

I’d had a horrible night, with three rooms I tried to book falling through, when I called this hotel. The man working on Friday October 9th was incredibly kind and tried to help me. He stayed helpful and considerate through the whole transaction. I wish more people in the area, especially at motels and hotels, were like him. Honestly, he deserves a raise.
