Breakfast was hot and tasty, though the oranges were a bit past their prime. Everyone was very friendly, and the room was quiet. We’d asked to move from the second floor to the first, and they were happy to switch us. In room 119, the door was propped open and the old sheets were still there, so we must have arrived right after it was cleaned. The footstool had a broken leg. I told the front desk, and they offered another room, but we stayed and it was fine.

They charged my card a different total from what the receipt showed when I got back to Alabama. I’d checked in just two or three minutes early, and the guy at the desk said he wouldn’t charge the $50 early check-in fee. If they were going to charge it, they should have said so upfront, or honored what I was told. This feels like a rip-off, and I don’t trust or recommend this hotel. Stay clear, in my opinion.

We won’t stay here again, and honestly, no more Avids for us. We were given a key to a dirty room. The fridge didn’t work, the shower wasn’t very hot, the toilet wasn’t working properly, and there was no microwave. We skipped breakfast. One man was standing there blowing his nose while fixing his plate.

The breakfast is good, but don’t assume it’ll be like this at other Avids. They usually serve wrapped hot sandwiches and wrapped omelets, and the staff said negative reviews about breakfast led them to make it more like Holiday Inn Express. They’re trying to fit it all into a space that’s too small, and the sneeze guard is moved aside so people can reach the food, which defeats its purpose. If you’re expecting Holiday Inn Express, you may be disappointed. This setup isn’t typical for Avids.
