Econo Lodge Conyers

We were only stopping overnight and hadn't planned to stay another night, but this was a terrible experience. The staff and front desk were rude, and the manager watched us on the cameras as we unloaded our suitcases, then called to tell us not to bring too much into the room. Later, he came to the room and told us there were too many people, even though it was three adult women and three kids, just family stopping by before dinner. We were asked to leave. The rooms also don't feel safe: the door looked as if someone had kicked it in, the bathroom door looked like a dog had been trapped inside trying to get out, and there was mold around the tub. I took pictures. The advertised photos are misleading, and I wouldn't recommend this motel. It's sad this is part of the Choice Member family.

The room was nasty, with food left in the microwave, apparently by previous guests, and no toilet paper. I only rented it because a septic tank problem at home meant none of us could shower that evening while it was being fixed. I prepaid through an online booking company, and the receipt said my room was paid in full and that my ID and receipt were all I needed. At the desk, the woman asked for my ID, a copy of the card I had paid with, and charged another $50 deposit. I've never had to pay a hotel deposit before. I wouldn't recommend this place. It doesn't deserve even one star, but that was the lowest rating I could give.

I paid extra for a late checkout, and they said 11:15 a.m. was the latest they could offer. That's not late to me. There were no blankets, the towels were dirty and wet, and when I asked for clean ones I got a look that could curdle mayonnaise. They gave no refund and took no responsibility. Booking through the CHOICE app seemed to get you treated like you'd turned up to rob the place. The furniture looked wobbly, stained, and older than my nearly 70 years. The tub had burn marks and someone else's used soap still in it, and the pillows had stains I didn't want to guess about. There were roaches and bed bugs, too. The woman at the front desk was incredibly rude when I showed her a picture of bed bugs. I've stayed at roadside motels, truck stops, and even in a tent during the war, and all were cleaner and friendlier than this dump.

The staff I dealt with were all nice, which is the only thing that kept me from giving this a one-star rating. Still, there were stains on the sheets and towels when we arrived, and that isn't okay at any price. It's a cheap hotel, so I didn't expect especially nice rooms, but I got the sense the owner was cutting corners. And there's no free breakfast, just coffee from 6 to 9 a.m. Unless you're just passing through and aren't bothered by cleanliness, I'd save the money and stay somewhere better.
