Motel 6 Akron

The man working the lobby desk was nice and apologetic, though he couldn't refund us because I'd prepaid through HotWire. We couldn't stay and had to move on without a refund. After trying three rooms, none of the designated non-smoking rooms felt clean, and all smelled strongly of smoke. One had what looked like dried blood splattered over the curtains, and another had a leaking shower. We could hear other guests through the walls in every room. Lots of people were hanging around in the parking lot, with loud music coming from rooms where doors were open. We had some unpleasant encounters with other guests and didn't feel safe. A scary place. One star is generous. Spend a little more if you can for a big improvement in quality, comfort, and safety.

The bed was comfy, and I really liked the sink area and the little table with seating. That part of the room was very nice. But there was about an inch of open space under the door, enough to see straight outside, and cold air kept coming in. We had to block it with a towel. The bathroom was quite rough, and I think the room could have been swept.

We were told we had too many people in the room and had to leave on Monday, even though we'd checked in Friday for a weeklong stay and everything had seemed fine. I had called Motel 6 before booking to confirm there wasn't too many of us: two adults, three kids, a dog, and a cat. The manager said we'd have no trouble finding another place, and that our prepaid money could take up to 5 days to come back. When I called Motel 6, they said the manager was confused and had counted the dog as a person. This was the week before Spring Break. If our group was too large, they should have said so at check-in when they ran my card. I also reported a hole in the ceiling stuffed with paper towels to Motel 6, if they care. Worst place. The survey made me give a star.

It was clean and quiet, which is a big plus, and the guy was nice. But we should get what we're told. I was quoted $46 for a studio with a kitchen, then charged $53 for a room without one. It only had an apartment-size refrigerator, no coffee maker, microwave, or anything else. They said it would have a king bed, but we got two doubles that they called queens. We used two pillows each, and they felt like half a pillow. I'll go back after the renovation and see if it matches what's advertised online. They might also look into adding tub plugs so guests can choose between a bath and a shower.
