I ended up getting a room at the Econolodge across the street. I’d booked and prepaid by card through booking.com, but when I got there they said it was no longer a motel 6 and couldn’t find my reservation. They wanted cash. booking.com told me the booking was confirmed and to contact the property, so I got sent back and forth. I usually don’t have issues, but apparently I can’t cancel this reservation and I’m out the money. 😡

The manager was respectful, very nice, and made us feel welcome. I’m a single mom of five, and our home was destroyed by the hurricane. This motel was affordable, clean, and right in the middle of everything we needed. The manager made sure our family of six had what we needed, and I have no complaints about the clean room or the stay. I’d give it a 10 out of 10 and would come back if we ever need to. I thank God for this family accommodating us when we needed it.

For one night it was tolerable, but I wouldn’t stay here again. The room was mid-renovation, with missing tiles and spackled walls, and there was just one tiny wastebasket all the way by the door. The sink faucet was automatic, which I understand can save water, but there was no hot water tap. The area felt sketchy, with garbage around and nowhere to walk the dog. Mostly, the check-in guy said just three words: “Give me ID.” No hello, no smile, no welcome. We’d stayed at the Lafayette IL Motel 6 the night before and chose this one because the staff there were so friendly. With other hotels within walking distance, they’d do well to finish the renovations and greet people with a smile.

The clean-looking linens and towels, plus what seemed to be a new floor, were about the only positives. I’d reserved ahead, but had to insist at check-in on getting a room with a fridge and microwave. The microwave was rusty and had no glass turntable. The fridge had no shelves, and its freezer was unusable because of thick ice buildup. There seemed to be roach eggs on the bathroom floor, and the inside of the door was covered in muddy, I hope, handprints. The temperature control had heat and fan but no air conditioning, and it wouldn’t go below 77 degrees. We left the mini fridge door open to get a little relief from the heat. There wasn’t a chair at the desk, so I had to sit on the bed to use my computer. The front desk guy barely spoke English. I hope the owners are embarrassed by how filthy that room was.

The rate seemed fair, but there were several problems during my winter storm stay. I drove two and a half hours from McDonough Ga to Cordele Ga and stayed from 1/7/2025 through 1/12/2025, leaving before checkout time on Monday. The desk person quoted $120.00 for two days without mentioning the $2.00 fee for using a debit Visa bank card. Running my card then caused it to lock. When I went to pay for two more days, a white man who answered the door didn’t say good morning. He sighed and acted bothered, like I was interrupting him. There was no housekeeping, so I had to get towels from him at the front desk. Before paying, people should read the reviews about cleanliness and customer service. Those who report these problems aren’t all lying about the business or how they were treated. I wish I could post pictures to make it more believable. Owners of small businesses should invest back into the property, keep the hotel up to date, and hire real contractors instead of cutting corners with shade tree maintenance men. It brings down the value of the place while they try to raise its price.
