Cortez Cozy Inn

The views were wonderful, with two mountain ranges to look at. The management team was amazing, and Stevie Ray went out of his way to make the stay phenomenal. He's the best hotel manager I've come across. The rooms were cute, tidy, and clean, with a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. There were more cable channels than I could watch. Thank you to Stevie Ray and the rest of the staff for such a memorable stay.

The pool and hot tub are here, along with a laundry room that actually works. Breakfast is continental, with hard-boiled eggs left out on the honor system, which makes it seem like trust still exists in some corners of America. My room was small and right by the curb, but had what I needed. No frills, and one of the hottest, most soul-reviving showers of my 3500-mile trip. Sometimes that's enough. Cozy Inn feels like a roadside relic dropped into a 1970s family road trip, tucked into the quiet sprawl of Cortez, about an hour past the Colorado side of Four Corners. I loved it. If I make it back to Cortez, which seems likely on this kind of trip, I'd stay again without a second thought. It isn't perfect or polished, but it feels real.

We got a spotless room on Friday afternoon, with all the modern basics: the little fridge was cold, and so was the A/C. The motel was full that night, yet it was quiet as a mouse. The mattresses were deep and plush, and the pillows were the best imaginable. My only complaint is that I couldn't thank the staff when we left, because a note said they were sleeping. It was only 6 a.m., so that's understandable. This sleepy little town's privately owned Cozy Inn is a hidden gem, one of the best motels I've ever stayed in, and I'll stay there on every visit to Cortez.

I was passing through Cortez for work after seeing the recent five-star reviews, but the room was disgusting. There was a leftover pube on the toilet, stains and smears on the lampshade, and the fridge was filthy, plugged in, and barely cold. I won't return or recommend this place to anyone. Think twice and spend a bit more before staying here.
