Fairfield Inn & Suites Cotulla

The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the place was so quiet that we slept great. We were passing through on a cross-country road trip and felt right at home. The staff were kind and helpful, breakfast was excellent, and they even upgraded us. We felt very well looked after. Thanks so much!

Breakfast was a letdown. I went an hour before it was due to end and found just one sausage patty left, with no sign of anyone restocking. It seemed the same employee was covering the desk and breakfast area, so the food was neglected. At check-in, the front desk lady wasn't friendly either. The room was uncomfortable from the start because it smelled strongly of mildew and mold. The restroom hadn't been cleaned properly: there were hairs across the floor and visible mold in the bathroom. I was very disappointed with my stay in Cotulla last Saturday and wouldn't recommend this property.

At breakfast, a staff member scolded me for not wearing shoes. The meal was missing basics, including the homemade hot oatmeal and bowls, and it was hard to feel safe or comfortable here at all. I paid $130 before they told me none of the key cards worked. Leaving the room meant either leaving the door open or risking being locked out. The hallways smelled of mold, the air conditioning wasn't on despite it being 115°F outside, and the property looked run-down. One room I was offered smelled so strongly of cigarette smoke that I turned it down. I've usually had good stays at Fairfield Inns, but this location was outrageous. Fairfields are meant to be high-end, or at least budget-friendly high-end. This felt like a $40-a-night motel, not a $130 hotel, and charging that much felt like robbery. I was shocked to see the good reviews. Avoid it. It's deeply disappointing and feels borderline dangerous.

I left and found another place, because the owner's behavior made me feel unsafe. I was traveling alone late at night and needed somewhere to sleep, so I pulled into the lot to check online for a room. A truck parked behind me and blocked my car in. A man got out, came to my window, and told me to roll it down. I only cracked it open to ask what he wanted. He said he owned this hotel and the one next door, and that he'd seen me drive through looking “suspicious.” I explained I was just looking for a room for the night. He said they had plenty and told me to get out of my car and go inside. I was tired and desperate for sleep, but after that, there was no way I was staying there.
