The view alone is worth it, and sitting outside was lovely. The umbrellas kept us cool, and the drink menu is extensive. The food was definitely not bland. We had duck with sweet corn and cherry chutney, plus halibut with smoked potatoes, sumac, and spicy greens. Both were full of flavor, beautifully done, and the halibut was delicate and delicious.

The Captains Burger was really good, with bacon jam, aioli, and great shoestring fries. I’d definitely recommend it. Their espresso martini was nice, too.

The atmosphere is lovely, and the holiday drinks are adorable. I’d like to see some good salads and more variety on the menu. I don’t eat fish, seafood, lamb, or duck.

The staff made us feel at home with warm, attentive, genuine service. The setting is unforgettable, and the atmosphere feels polished while still being welcoming, never pretentious. The food is outstanding, thoughtfully made and beautifully presented. It’s among the best dining we’ve had on Whidbey. Captain Whidbey is absolutely worth going out of your way for, and we’ll be back again and again.

Amber, my server and bartender, was so friendly and made me feel welcome as a solo diner. I had a little table in the bar that suited me perfectly. The room has a great layout and decor, and the music volume was comfortable. Also, fantastic playlist! I ordered the brassicas and the lamb, both listed as small plates, though they were substantial. I couldn’t find a fault with either and would happily eat them every day. I cook a lot, and the balance of salty and citrusy flavors in both dishes was spot on. The ingredients seemed high quality, and the carrot cake was very good, too. I went in unsure what to expect from a place with only 80 reviews and came away blown away. I’d love to come back tomorrow.
