The property manager was kind and personable, but that was the only good part of my experience. Unwrapped dead carcasses were disposed of on the property, and when I complained, I got no response. After I moved out, I was accused of having a dog chew the furniture, even though I've never owned a dog, in this unit or anywhere else. Neither of my two guests had a dog either. I recovered move-in photos that clearly showed the damage was already there. They still refused to return my $500 deposit.

I was left stranded late at night with no way to get into the property, until Airbnb support found me another place at the last minute and helped sort things out. Without their help, I would've been alone and exhausted in an unfamiliar town with nowhere to stay. The whole experience was extremely stressful and disappointing. I'd booked a one-night stay at Wild Skies Cabins in Craig, Colorado, for September 9 through Airbnb. The location looked peaceful and the listing promising, but I couldn't get in. I messaged the host when I reserved in July with a friendly greeting and my expected arrival and departure times, but got no response. On the day of the trip, after a four-hour drive, I messaged again and repeatedly asked for check-in details through Airbnb. I also used Airbnb support to request a call to the host and left a voicemail. Still no reply. The property might be lovely, but that doesn't help if you can't access it, especially in a remote area. Hosts there need to respond. If you book, I'd strongly suggest having a backup plan, maybe even a tent.

The beds were comfortable and the owners were nice, but they could've handled my situation better. I paid for a month and left before two weeks because dealing with all the plumbing trouble and moving was too much. The toilet in my cabin leaked and soaked the bathroom carpet. I stayed there for two days while it dried, then it leaked again. Lisa offered another cabin, but said I'd have to return to my original one because the second was rented out. In that cabin, the tub drained so slowly I was standing in an inch of water. There was only a little light right by the cabin door and none in the parking areas, so I didn't feel safe.

It was very clean and quiet, and it was great to find a place that accepts family pets. Lisa was willing to work with us when we needed a later checkout. The room was missing a few things we expected, like bath soap, coffee, paper towels, and maybe a tissue box. Reading lamps on both sides of the bed would be useful for anyone who likes to read before sleep. I can see this being a good fit for travelers who come to town to hunt.

We loved having space for all five of us, with enough room for everyone to find a quiet spot. The kitchen, dining room, and family room felt warm and welcoming when we were together. The views were breathtaking, and we enjoyed exploring, taking walks, and getting photos of the surroundings. It was wonderful to feel away from everything. We came to Wild Skies in July for a good old-fashioned family vacation and some rest and relaxation, not for hunting. It was a wonderful experience, and I'd definitely recommend it.
