Cresco Motel

After 90 days, Cresco Motel had become home for me while I was working in the area. As a traveling male nurse, I look for a budget room and don’t need extra amenities, and this place was what I needed: basic, functional, clean on arrival, with the usual motel supplies. The rooms have small kitchenettes and college-dorm-style fridges. Mr. L, the owner, dealt promptly with issues I brought to him. My fridge wasn’t working when I arrived. He explained directly that he was replacing the fridges across the property and would get to mine as soon as possible. It took four days, and he kept me updated the whole time. Since it was mid-December, I could just keep my food in the car. That was my only real issue during the stay. Mr. Eric, Mr. L’s housekeeper and property manager, was helpful with my questions and little day-to-day snags. The water was hot with good pressure, except it seemed weaker when lots of us used it at once. There’s laundry on site, which I used for the occasional load, though I usually went to the local laundromat. The dryer is weak, so a full load of medium or heavy items may need two runs or some time to air-dry. I do wish I’d booked a larger ADA room with a bigger kitchen and an actual stove. For me, it would’ve been worth the extra cost. One location drawback is the dog food plant a block away. When the wind blows toward the motel, the smell is like cracker-shaped Goldfish and sweaty buttcheeks. It doesn’t happen all day every day, but over a long stay you’ll run into it. Three other women travelers stayed there while I was there. They all said it was fine and that they’d stay again. I felt safe. Mr. L has cameras everywhere, and the Howard County sheriff’s department and Cresco police are bored, so you can do the math. I’ll come back when I’m in the area. I was completely satisfied, and the motel was exactly what I expected and needed for those 90 days.
