Hotel Texas

After a birthday barbecue on 7/27/2025, I woke around 4:40 a.m. and found a big spider on the floor beside the bed. I don't know what kind it was, but I took a photo and posted it with this review. The doors didn't feel secure enough, so I'd wedged a table and chair against mine. I showered, got dressed, and left at 5:05 a.m. for the two-hour drive home. When I called the hotel to explain, they said they couldn't refund me.

I reported Hotel Texas to state and federal agencies after our horrible stay from 11/2/24 to 11/3/24. Our room, number 141, had exposed wires and ceiling mold, and was dark with just one desk lamp. The wiring may have been where a smoke detector or ceiling light was missing. I was quoted $55 plus tax, but charged $84.75. The front desk man said the extra was service fees. We were given no signed contract or receipt at check-in, and all the hotel wanted for the booking was my phone number. I expect to get a refund through law enforcement. There was confusion over checkout. The night manager told us 11:30 a.m., but the daytime manager on Sunday, 11/3, harassed us to leave at 10 because of the fall time change. We were told the pool opened at noon, after our checkout, despite it being advertised as free. Breakfast was advertised as included too, but when we called several hours before checkout to ask when it started, the front desk man yelled, said there was no free breakfast, and hung up. At 10, he sent a Hispanic housekeeper to get us out. She seemed close to tears and said he was mean and evil to her and guests. My family told her to quit and work across the street at the Holiday Inn, where we'll stay on our next, frequent visit to Cuero. We experienced price gouging and life-threatening hazards. There are plenty of nearby hotels, so please don't stay here.

Everything went smoothly, and the setting was comfortable. A great experience.

I came to Cuero with a friend for a celebration of life after being told this hotel had good prices, friendly service, and a hot breakfast. None of the services I expected were provided, and I regret spending my money here. The room smelled so strongly of mold I could barely breathe, we couldn't swim, there was no breakfast, and the one-night price was over $80. We didn't get towel service either. The front desk man was rude, cold, and completely unhelpful. When I called to ask about breakfast, he spoke very rudely in very broken English, said there was no breakfast, then hung up without another word. His service was the worst part, though the overpowering mold smell also has me hoping there won't be health problems. I rarely leave reviews, but this was really, really bad. I'll never stay here again.
