Super 8 by Wyndham Dallas Love Field Airport

The price is good for what you get, and there's construction underway. The place looks great and seems to be coming along well. This was my second stay at the super 8. The rooms are decent, though the floors need a proper deep clean. It seems like they only sweep, or they don't change the mop water often. The laundry dryer still doesn't work. I noticed a couple of new units, but staff said they're not online yet.

The courtyard was really nice, especially with the upgraded fire pit. I just wish I'd had time to enjoy it. I'd expected more as a Diamond Member, since none of my three requests were honored: no early check-in or late check-out, and no room upgrade. I arrived with my luggage after a 12-hour shift and had to switch rooms at 1 a.m. because the TV in the first room didn't work. The second room had mildew in the shower. Although the property has advertised renovations in progress since last year, the only work I noticed was fresh shower caulking. The grout still had mildew, and a fresh coat of ceiling paint just covered the mold. It also seemed odd that one property was being used and marketed as two separate hotels when they're actually one and the same.

I drove right next door and got a room in under five minutes, with no reservation, no card deposit, and free early check-in. That was after more than thirty minutes of frustration here. I won't do business with this hotel chain again. I'd booked through Priceline, but the clerk acted irritated while trying to find the reservation and treated me like I was stupid for not knowing the right code. She finally found it by typing in my last name after I'd nearly walked out. Then she said she was charging my credit card, not a debit card, $100 for the deposit and room charges. I've stayed in hotels from four-star places to motels and can't remember the last time one charged my credit card a deposit. I could understand it with a debit or prepaid card that couldn't be verified, but it rubbed me the wrong way. She didn't explain what she was doing, and treated me like a third-rate citizen for booking on Priceline. I wouldn't have been nearly so irritated about the deposit if she'd explained it. I won't make the mistake of walking into this place again.

I've had some kind of problem on pretty much every stay here: a loud AC, a roof leak, a laundry mat next door that shakes the walls all night, or top flight security banging on my door at 2 a.m. looking for someone smoking. This time, I needed two more nights, but they wanted to charge me $25 or make me wait four hours until 3 p.m. The real feel outside is 12°. I'm about to sit outside in freezing weather for four hours. Thanks for the compassion, Super 8.
