After being a Hilton Honors member for nearly as long as the program has existed, I’m done. My parents stayed with Hilton and Hampton Inn, and I carried on the habit after I grew up and got married. Yesterday was my father’s funeral. It had been a long, exhausting afternoon, and because of business meetings in our hometown, four states away, my husband and I had to leave right away and start driving home. We wanted to stop around IC/Coralville, but our favorite Hilton hotels there were full. We needed a refrigerator for the food we were taking home, so we had to find a place with a kitchen. We were already tired, and it was very late, but we drove on to Davenport. I booked the Homewood Suites, but a glitch in the HH app charged me without correctly booking or confirming the room. When I tried to check in at 9pm, the app said it was “too early.” I spent hours on the phone with Hilton, going through phone trees and calling five times. Eventually someone admitted the app wasn’t working and told me I’d have to trust that the room was there. When we got to the Homewood Suites, I could pull up the app and get a digital key. We unpacked the car and all our things, then found the refrigerator wasn’t working. All our food was in a box at room temperature. The very young desk clerk literally hyperventilated and started crying when I asked for help. They said there was nothing they could do, no other rooms or refrigerators, no tech on site, and they wouldn’t keep our food in the breakfast area fridges. It was 10 pm by then. I tried the nearby Home2Suites and Hampton Inn. Rebecca at the Hampton tried hard to help, but couldn’t find a room or refrigerator for us. All our food spoiled. We slept in a smelly room with beat-up furniture, and the blanket looked like a dog had chewed it. We paid $215 for this. My calls to Hilton have been completely useless, and no one seems to care. They’ve wasted my time. I’m done with Hilton Honors.
The location right off the main highway was perfect, and the hotel was neat and clean. Our room was great, with lots of conveniences. This was the best breakfast we’ve had at a Hilton, with a nice buffet, breakfast burritos, fresh fruit, and good coffee. Alexia at the front desk was very sweet. There are lots of restaurants nearby. Highly recommend.
The bed was comfy, but the pillows were terrible. The room had what we needed, and Lexi was the real standout. She ran the front desk, handled after-hours requests for extra sheets, and helped our big soccer team use the lobby and pool. She was fair about the pool rules and worked hard to accommodate everything we needed. Thank you, Lexi!
It’s similar to a Residence Inn or an Element, and the breakfast was good. The breakfast lady worked hard and had nice options, including chia pudding and overnight oatmeal. There wasn’t a nondairy milk choice, though, and some chairs were stained.
Housekeeping was really good, the rooms were well kept, and the front desk was friendly. Breakfast is free, but there aren’t many options. The free wifi is low grade and only lasts a few days, even though I’m staying for weeks. Hotel wifi in general isn’t secure enough either. The pool and hot tub are small.
