Best Western Plus Palm Court Hotel

We were passing through and stopped for a quick breakfast, and it was a pleasant surprise. The ingredients were good, with no packets of jam or jelly, and the bread wasn’t the usual sliced loaf. Parking was tricky.

Right in the heart of Davis, with an easy walk to all the fun. Great hotel and staff.

We used to stay often at the Palm Court Best Western because my mom still lives in Davis. That’s over now. My last review was about a contaminated in-room coffee maker, and this visit was much worse. We arrived Saturday night, but there was no parking available in the garage, which isn’t patrolled. The room was hot, and the cooling unit sat by the window right next to the bed, switching on and off all night and making sleep impossible. We could hear the upstairs guests through the plumbing, along with their footsteps and doors slamming. The shower felt like a backyard hose from the 70s. At 6:30 am Monday, garbage collection woke us. A homeless man sleeping outside our window complained to the garbage crew that they were disturbing him. I showed a photo of him to the registration clerk, who said there was nothing she could do. Never again, Palm Court.

Disabled Traveler Review, room 307. The bathroom was the best part: clean, roomy, and very accommodating, with a beautiful though somewhat small freestanding tub, a spacious shower, and a shower chair in the closet if needed. There’s lots of black and white marble, attractive in an 1980s way. The room itself was clean, spacious, fragrance-free, and quiet. It had extra pillows in the closet, plenty of daylight through large windows, and a mini fridge. Starbucks coffee at reception was much better than the in-room coffee. There’s one disabled parking spot near the elevator. The front desk was welcoming, and check-in and checkout were efficient. It seems well run, with a restaurant and separate bar on site, right in downtown Davis. Given the space and cleanliness, most disabled people would likely be comfortable here. The room also has some dated features. The wall unit air conditioning is 1960s style and takes ages to cool the room, especially when it’s over 100F outside. The furnishings, carpet, window coverings, and lighting all have a strong 1980s feel, and the headboard has a small hole. There’s no wall art or mirror outside the bathroom, and the three lamps give poor light. The TV dominates the room. A mirror, lamp, and outlet by the desk would be easy additions, but there’s no outlet near the desk or any convenient place to charge devices. The welcome letter says there’s no daily housekeeping, while comments below say housekeeping is daily, so ask ahead. There’s no bottled water. They require a $50 deposit for “incidentals,” which is a first for me and a bad idea, though apparently it’s refunded to your account within 5 days. Underground parking is limited, and both the garage and elevator are small. No view, terrace, or balcony.
