Quality Inn Daytona Speedway

For a room just about half a mile off I-95, this is everything you could ask for at a reasonable rate. Mine cost $99 including taxes, though I wouldn’t expect that during Speedway events. The Quality Inn is across from the International Speedway, family owned according to its advertising, attractive, well located, and friendly. My room, 223, showed signs of recent renovation, including what looked like new bathroom fixtures and more than enough kinds of plugs for business travel. The bedding and towels were as good as those in rooms charging twice as much or more. Breakfast was included and adequate if you want to eat and get going, rather than linger. Finding a Florida room under $100 with reasonable comfort and a sense of security can feel like finding a unicorn.

I’ve spent more than a decade giving awards to restaurants and hotels, so I can be picky when traveling for pleasure. Despite the mixed reviews, I booked this place for its price and location and couldn’t find anything wrong except the lack of a closet or even a rack for hanging clothes. I made do with the bathroom doorknob. I highly recommend it.

The main problem was being locked into a roughly $500-per-night rate after nobody disclosed the cancellation policy. I asked about it the first night, after booking over the phone and then speaking with them in person, and only then was told it was a 60-day cancellation policy. Their “choice hotels” website wouldn’t even let me view the terms and conditions, so I’m going out of my way to leave this Google review. For a two-star motel, the staff were friendly and the place seemed clean. The room service didn’t clean like a typical Hilton, and the door lock was broken when I arrived. I had to request a repair, which they did the next day.

I tried two different rooms and had the same experience in both. The carpet was torn up, the rooms were dirty, there was no lock on the door, and the door looked like someone had tried to break in. The guy at the front desk was great and as helpful as he could be, but this was -10000/10. I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy and would love a refund. Stay away at all costs.
