The room looked updated, but it smelled of smoke, and the hotel itself was run down. The exterior doors weren’t working, there’s no elevator, pool, or hot tub, and it wasn’t worth the price. “Breakfast” meant cereal and yogurt.

The staff were kind, but the motel felt run down and the room had several maintenance problems. The lampshades had holes, the Kleenex dispenser was coming out of the wall, and there was dirt on the blow dryer. The fridge was badly yellowed inside, and the room mirror was mounted very crookedly.

We ended up in DeSoto because most hotels in KC were full, and the holiday-weekend rate was high at $135 a night. Even so, we were pleasantly surprised. The room had been freshened up and was very nice and quiet. I slept great on the bed and pillows. There were plenty of towels, plus a microwave and fridge that almost froze our pop. Breakfast was included, though we slept so well that we missed it. The desk clerks were always quick and pleasant. I’d stay again despite the drive into Kansas City.

The staff were friendly and tried to help. We were first put on the second floor, and since there’s no elevator and no first-floor room was free then, we went out to an event. The front desk called while we were away, and after I missed it, the person called back to say a first-floor room had opened up and we could stop by for a new key. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but there were very few amenities: no USB ports, just two small soap bars and a little shampoo, and no coffee maker. Breakfast choices were limited and disappointing. The individually wrapped pastries were nice, and there was bread and waffles to toast, but no butter. The snack and soda machines were almost empty and only took quarters. It wasn’t one of our best stays, didn’t feel worth the money, and there wasn’t anything especially good about it.
