Heidi at the front desk made a long, exhausting trip so much easier. I’d come from Chicago on barely five hours of sleep in nearly 60 hours and just wanted a bath and somewhere to lie down. She was kind and understanding toward a middle-aged woman trying to make her dream of traveling across America happen. Deadwood is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited, and staying here made it even better. I’d recommend this location over some of the places with paid parking. You save money and get wonderful service from Heidi.
The room was lovely, with a big TV and comfortable beds, and everything felt clean and fancy. Breakfast had lots to choose from, and I thought the stay was well worth the price. There’s a casino feel to the hotel, with drinks served around the gaming area and a bar right there. A Pizza Hut, sub shop, Starbucks, and Paddy O' Neils Irish pub are all connected, so it’s easy to walk between them.
The good parts were the breakfast and being right in Deadwood. The rest of the stay left me frustrated enough that I don’t want to stay in this town again. Keep up the good work, Hampton. We stopped in without booking and were quoted $350 a night. Since it looked like a nice place, we stayed a few nights and expected more for that price. There’s no pool, just a small gym, bar, and casino. Later I saw that the room online had been only $100 and that this was a 2-3 star hotel. The machines were among the tightest I’ve played, and a few hundred dollars got me nothing to keep playing with. Staff barely came around to ask about drinks, and they were rude. There wasn’t much game variety either. The room was cramped, the bathroom sink leaked, and its sliding door had no lock. We were beside the highway and heard cars and bikes all night. Room service only took out the small trash bags. They didn’t make the bed or change the towels, just picked the towels up from the floor and put them back on the shelf. I could tell because of the stains.
The free breakfast was really good, with a slightly different menu each day. Parking was the main hassle. The lot is narrow and long, across the street, and winds around the mountainside for nearly a block. They’ll let you borrow a luggage cart if you need one. It must be a pain in the rain.
The staff were very friendly, and the place was well looked after. We stayed two nights at Hampton Inn Deadwood at Tin Lizzie and were very pleased with it. The location is great, at the top of Main Street and close to historic sites and restaurants.
