Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Decatur at Decatur Conference Center

My sister-in-law stayed down the hall and her room was full of crickets. In our room, the water pressure was awful, there was no hot water, and I woke the first night to a bug crawling across my face. My kids used the room phone to call my cell, and now they're charging us $40 for it. Who charges for a room phone, what is this, the 90s? They also charged us twice for the stay, then took several days to return our call about a refund. Honestly, the whole stay should have been free. I'd never recommend this place.

I stayed here recently on a business trip and had a great stay. The rooms were clean and pleasant, and Grace at the front desk was friendly and extremely helpful.

The location was quiet, and it's easy to get back to the highway. There are restaurants nearby too. But there were a lot of crickets and bugs all over the property and in the room. I've seen worse, but it wasn't the cleanest.

We arrived Saturday night for a four-night stay booked through Priceline: a king suite with a pullout bed for my husband, our two children, and me. The first room had a king bed but no pullout, so the front desk moved us to the suite we had booked and said there would be no extra charge. I had entered the number of guests and checked the dates more than once when making the reservation. On Tuesday we went out to visit family. Later that night, our keys stopped working. At the desk, an employee said we should have checked out that morning and that the manager had called several times and emailed me. I checked my inbox and spam folder, and there was no email. I checked the hotel's number too: I had received one call from it, which rang once and ended, with no message or other attempt to reach me. I asked to speak to the manager about what had happened. The employee called her, but the manager wouldn't let me explain the original booking. She said if I couldn't pay, I couldn't stay, and gave me ten minutes to decide before she would make us leave. It was the middle of the night, and my two children were exhausted. Even if we could have afforded another night, I wouldn't have paid to stay after being treated that way. The room mix-up had already been bad enough. At first I wondered if this was an isolated mess. After reading other reviews and meeting someone that evening who described the same problem with this location and manager, it seemed like a pattern. The manager was rude and inconsiderate, and her claim that she had called several times doesn't match what happened. I don't expect a refund or apology, and I doubt she'll think she did anything wrong. I usually don't complain publicly, and I know businesses can have bad days, but I hope someone sees this and stays elsewhere. I won't come back, however nice the hotel might be, and I hope this saves someone else the same heartache. I believe people who wrong others eventually get what they deserve.
