Quality Inn & Suites Decorah

For less than $99 a night, it did what I needed: clean sheets and towels, a quick breakfast, and friendly, helpful staff. The tub looked worrying, though. It's plastic and badly stained, and hasn't held up well. I'd put a hand towel down to stand on while showering, and I'd avoid sitting on the couch.

Breakfast was decent and more than just continental fare, and the room was clean. It's on a main road. The desk person could've been a bit friendlier, though it wasn't a big enough issue to complain about. I'd stay here again.

The room itself was dirty: gritty carpet, pubic hairs and a dead bug in the shower, plus soap smeared on the counter. The TV only had 12 channels unless I paid for Netflix. Stay somewhere else. The payment arrangement was a mess too. When I booked, I said I'd pay cash on arrival, and was told that was fine as long as I gave a credit card to hold the room. I asked again because there wouldn't be enough on the card to pay in advance, and she said they would only charge it at check-in. Then, while we were driving there, a man called to say the card had been declined. I explained again that we'd pay cash when we checked in. He told us that because it was a holiday weekend, we had to secure the room with a credit card charge before arriving. I couldn't do that while driving on the highway. He said he'd give our room to someone else if we didn't arrive before 4 pm. That changed our plans drastically, since we had to rush or risk having nowhere to stay.

The Quality inn was good for what you get in a small town like Decorah, where resort-style hotels aren't really the expectation, lol. The bed was comfortable, the breakfast mediocre, and the rate good.
