I’ve stayed at Hilton brand hotels for years and have usually been impressed by their professionalism and responsiveness. This location was the exception. There were ants all over our room, and when I reported it, staff said they couldn’t do anything because no manager was on site. I asked what they’d do in a real emergency they couldn’t handle, and they said they’d call the manager. We waited for a call that never came. When I called back, I got the same answer and still no follow-up. It’s now been over a month since August 31st, and I haven’t received a call, apology, or any attempt to make things right. The front desk staff seemed young and untrained for anything beyond basic check-ins. Management should have a qualified manager available or on call. Ants crawling around a guest room are unacceptable, and the lack of follow-up or accountability made it worse. I hope Hilton corporate addresses this, because the experience fell well below what I’ve come to expect.

Our rooms were immaculate, and breakfast was superb. Hannah at the front desk made a real difference to how we feel about Hampton Inns. I had a problem with our room rate, explained it to her, and she quickly sorted it out. Much appreciated, great customer service. We’ll return.

The service really stood out. Everyone I interacted with was excellent, especially Christian at the desk and Norma in the breakfast area. They’re both a pleasure to talk with and seem to look for ways to improve guests’ experience. The hotel is very clean and has what a business traveler needs. It’s also convenient for the manufacturing plant I visit in Lake Zurich.

The young man at the front desk was awesome and very hospitable, and the rooms were clean. One housekeeping staff member was great too. There are nearby walking trails and food options. Things were on track for a wonderful five-star review, but two things brought it down to three. On our second-to-last night, the fire alarm went off at 3 a.m. We went outside on a stormy night and waited for firefighters to clear the building before trying to sleep again. No explanation, communication, or apology was given, not even by email as far as we saw. I understand there may have been a reasonable cause, but no one told us, and when I emailed to share my thoughts, I got no reply. Also, on three different mornings while I was enjoying the pretty good breakfast, they closed at 9:57 instead of the posted 10 a.m. They couldn’t wait three more minutes? It made it seem like they just wanted to get out of there.
