Hyatt Regency Deerfield

We’ve stayed at the Hyatt Regency Deerfield several times, for work and for fun, and each visit has gone really well. It leans more toward business travel, but we still enjoyed the amenities. Check-in was quick every time, the pool stayed clean, and while the gym is small, it had what we needed. I’d recommend it for a work trip or a leisure stay when a comfortable place to sleep is all you’re after, rather than a full resort.

The calm here is what would bring me back. The lobby is one of the most relaxing places I’ve been, and our room was really cozy. It’s a lovely hotel, and it felt much quieter than the usual busy places. Super safe!

The elevator problem made checkout especially upsetting. My wife was trapped inside for about 15 minutes. The elevators had seemed unreliable throughout our stay, responding slowly or taking a long time to arrive. Nobody came to check on her or appeared to realize what was happening. She eventually forced the doors open, crawled out, and took the stairs. Even when the elevator alarm sounded and beeped, no employee responded. The beds were another serious problem. We arrived late and found that we could feel the springs through the mattress. I asked the next morning for a different room, and the front desk employee said all the beds were around 10+ years old and basically alike. The second room felt the same. They eventually moved us to a third room at the back, which I think may have been a manager room or something. It was a little better, but still not good. We had a very bad stay and couldn’t relax. I don’t understand the 4.1 rating. The front desk said this was a franchise location, but corporate needs to look into the hotel’s condition and upkeep. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, whether you’re traveling for work or vacation.

The room was roomy and laid out well, and the location is the strong point. It’s easy to get to 294 and 94, just off Lake Cook road, with a straightforward drive east or west toward Northbrook, Wheeling, or Glenview. The attached convention center explains the large lobby, which also has a cafe and business room, though the lobby itself isn’t fancy. The age of things is hard to miss in the rooms. The bed isn’t awful, but it’s not what I expect from Hyatt Regency, and the TV only has limited cable, no streaming. The HVAC blew heat from one vent and cold air from another, so the room was cold. The bed, TV, and HVAC all feel old, and the hallways remind me of an 80s apartment complex.
