Comfort Inn & Suites DeLand - near University

The convenient spot has plenty of shops and restaurants nearby, plus a Dunkin Donuts right next door. The check-in staff member was friendly, and free parking and breakfast were nice perks. Breakfast had hot and cold options like sausage patties, scrambled eggs, cereal, waffles, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, milk, juice, coffee, pastries, muffins, and bread. The sausage and eggs weren't great, as is common with continental breakfasts, but it was free. The hotel's coffee was weak and watery. I’ve stayed at lots of Comfort Inns without major issues and keep my expectations modest for a budget hotel, but this visit was a letdown. I was glad it was just one night: the room was filthy, and I could hear a lot of noise from the lobby and the room above. I saw two bugs, apparently different kinds of cockroaches, one on the bedroom floor and another on the bathroom counter. The tub was badly stained and worn, and needed refinishing. There was one full toilet paper roll and another with only about a third left, apparently from previous guests. I've never been given a partly used roll in a hotel, and it seemed unsanitary even to me. The guests upstairs arrived around 11-11:30 pm and were noisy for hours. My husband complained at the desk, but the noise continued for a while. That can happen anywhere, but it was still annoying. I probably wouldn't stay again unless they renovate the bathrooms and improve cleanliness.

I called several times to ask about my reservation and nobody would talk to me. The night staff answered and hung up without saying a word, so I canceled. Teach your employees customer service, or next time I'll take extra measures to make sure you're under new management.

The place was really clean and nice, and breakfast was good. Just bring your own Fire Stick or Roku, since our TV didn't have streaming channels.

Everyone I spoke with was pleasant, and the customer service was amazing. The room itself was okay, though a bit messy and not cleaned well. Breakfast wasn't anything special, so I skipped the free meal every day, which is unusual for me. I also had a hard time with the keycards and needed them reprogrammed almost daily. The bathroom was awful, with a bad odor from the plumbing that got especially bad when showering. These inconveniences made the stay harder to enjoy.
