MainStay Suites Denham Springs - Baton Rouge East

The staff were great, and overall it was a good stay. Breakfast was free and not bad, though they served the same things each day and could change it up. The room was a little messy when we arrived: there was hair on the shower walls from the previous guest, and some towels were stained. The pillows were tiny, almost like sofa pillows, and the bed was stiff and hard.

The beds were awful, with very old coil mattresses, and I had the worst night's sleep. The rooms are large but so musty it was almost hard to breathe. The third-floor windows open without screens, so you'd have to open one to air out the smell, but a child could easily fall out.

Three of the four of us woke up with stuffy noses and postnasal drip. Our room was disgusting: only the sheets seemed clean, the bathroom was dirty with dirty towels, and the desk drawer was full of garlic peels. The ceiling was covered in mold and the smell was rancid. Apparently the hotel has a mold issue. We were very disappointed that we couldn't switch rooms because the hotel and nearby places were fully booked.

The room, 104 on the ground floor, reeked of mold, and the carpet was sticky. It was horrible. I told the front desk, and a nice girl made a note, but that didn't change the fact I had to sleep in mold for three nights. We would have left, but everywhere else was booked on a busy weekend. It's a dated hotel that needs a complete remodel. The staff were nice except the manager, Debbie, who was rather rude on the phone the day before check-in. She needs replacing fast with someone who has a better personality. Three days after the initial billing, I got hit with a $250.00 charge. I guess that's what happens when you fill out the corporate survey complaining about the mold. I'll file a fraudulent charge with my credit card. After reading other reviews, I'm clearly not the first to complain about mold, yet they keep operating like it isn't an issue. Tear this dump down!
