La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Denver Cherry Creek

The room was comfortable, but cleanliness was a problem: there were stains on the duvet and urine on the toilet seat when we arrived. We also saw a group of homeless people living in the bushes along the property. We realized while finding our way there that the hotel is well south of the actual Cherry Creek neighborhood, despite how it’s advertised. For the price, I can live with it, but if you can spend more, there are better hotels at similar rates and I’d stay somewhere else.

We came for a few days of quiet, and the room had plenty of space for the three of us. The bed was just the right size and really clean, and the mini fridge kept our drinks cold. Staff were super nice, and housekeeping left the room tidy with fresh towels. It was peaceful apart from some neighbors slamming doors.

The staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful, and I’ve stayed here twice. My first room was dated and not very clean, but the room on my second visit was nice and clean. They accept pets, which is a plus, though there’s no potty area at the hotel. Perkins next door does have one. There’s no laundry on site either, which was a pain. Getting ice is awkward, and the walkway to the machine is very dark and creepy at night. I wouldn’t go there alone after dark. What really bothered me was seeing belongings removed from a room a few doors down, as if someone had lived there a long time. A fish tank was left on its side outside, with a dead fish on the ground nearby. That was not okay. Fish matter just as much as dogs, cats, and birds, and that’s why I gave the hotel only two stars.

The feather pillows were the biggest problem for me. Their sharp quills poked my head whenever I moved, which was really annoying. The hotel also charged a little over $100 a night even though we booked weeks ahead, so the lack of a fridge or microwave and the insubstantial breakfast were hard to overlook. On the plus side, it’s conveniently close to the Denver train station, with a delicious place to eat about 50 feet away. Our room was clean, the bed was mostly comfortable, the lighting was adequate, and the heat and AC worked well. The bathroom was small, though it had a nice large mirror.
