I was scared to tell the hotel I’d found a crack pipe in my room because I worried they’d accuse me of bringing it in. I took it to a dumpster blocks away instead. The person I spoke to by phone said I’d get a refund if I left, so I left and gave up the rest of the nights I’d paid for, but never got that refund. There’s no parking on the property, which I hadn’t been told beforehand. I had to park three blocks away on the street and haul my things through the snow. Check-in is after four, but staff leave around then or earlier, so there was nobody to help with check-in, answer questions, or handle problems. It made the hotel feel eerie, sad, and lonely. The rooms use a door code texted to you, which is fine, but there’s no bolt, chain, or other lock that only works from inside. I felt vulnerable and pushed a chair against the door. I stayed here two years ago, and it was awful. I didn’t even realize hotels without parking existed, so it never occurred to me to ask. Protect your sanity and mental health, and avoid this place.
The room was so gorgeous, and the outside was to die for. I booked because the rooms looked vintage and beautiful, and the hotel was a lovely surprise. The location felt a little sketchy, but they can’t fix that. It was worth every penny, and we’re making it our yearly tradition. Thanks Holiday Chalet 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
The place has a quaint feel, a nice kitchen, a large bedroom with two beds, a little sitting area, and a good-sized bathroom. But it was drab and needed freshening up and cleaning. There were beads all over the room, and I kept stepping on them. The bathroom sink still had toothpaste from the previous guests, and the area rug needed cleaning. The bedspread was so dull it needed cleaning or a brighter one. The heat went off around 2 am, and I couldn’t get it working again. It was cold, and there were no extra blankets. The front windows look out onto the bus stop.
It’s a beautiful place with incredible character, and the Albert Suite was the coolest of the three different rooms I’ve stayed in. I’ve come back for a third visit, so that says a lot. The only issue was that we couldn’t figure out the heater, and my husband was freezing, though maybe we were just being dumb. The location is very convenient for the Fillmore and Ogden theaters, which is partly why we chose it the first time. It’s not for everyone, but it’s for me, and I’ll definitely return next time we go to a show.
I’ve wanted to stay here forever, and seeing the Albert Suite in person made it feel even more like a dream. It’s absolutely beautiful, I felt like a princess and didn’t want to leave the room. Check-in was incredibly easy compared with other no-contact places. A staff member was there when we arrived and offered an extra space heater just in case, before we even knew whether we’d need it.
