Caribbean Dunes #105

Caribbean Dunes Condos gave us an affordable, comfortable place to stay in Destin. The atmosphere felt welcoming, the property and shared spaces were clean, and staff were friendly and ready to help. It's also a relaxed, family-friendly spot. We liked being in Crystal Beach, with Henderson Beach State Park, Destin Harbor Boardwalk, and Big Kahuna's Water and Adventure Park within reach. There are restaurants and shops nearby, and plenty of options for fishing, water sports, and other outdoor activities. The white-sand beach is a short walk away. The condos are simple but practical. Ours had a comfortable living area, a kitchen with the essentials for cooking, and a restful bedroom. Some units have private balconies with a coastal breeze and partial Gulf views. The outdoor pool and hot tub were nice for downtime, and there are BBQ grills and picnic spots. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property. It's a good home base for a budget-friendly family trip or a quiet break.

The condo itself was great, but I wish we'd known the pool was across the road and the beach wasn't directly outside our door. We had asked about being able to step straight out to either one, like some of the photos seem to show.

We come to Destin every year and always book a unit at Caribbean Dunes. The units are more than 20 years old, so there are a few signs of age, but we still love the complex. We book through VRBO or a property management company, and the rental prices seem about the same either way. We've even thought about buying here. The kitchens have plenty of cookware and small appliances, so making meals in the condo is easy, and there's a washer and dryer in the hallway. Most units have keyless entry, which means we can go straight to the beach, pool, or hot tub without stopping at an office for keys. The grocery store is two blocks away. The location in Crystal Beach is a big reason we return. The complex is a block from the main road and the mid-bay bridge entrance, so we can avoid downtown Destin traffic. The white sand and emerald water are across the scenic highway, and Henderson State park is also a block away, with less crowded beach areas.

We booked unit 225 in December for a June 10th check-in. The owner changed the locks on May 13th, but nobody told us the unit wasn't available. We only found out when we arrived on June 10th. Very disappointing.
