Commander's Palace

The best part was the location: the public beach is across the street and a block over, and the third-floor water view is unobstructed. We had a great time, though our friend’s fall on a loose patio paver put a damper on things. She scraped both knees badly, and the pavers, especially by the grilling ledge, need attention. There are spaces for six cars, three in the garage and three outside, and a Dually won’t fit; blocking the sidewalk could get you a ticket. For the price, the property wasn’t what we expected, and the online pictures are misleading. The kitchen refrigerator didn’t work, so management brought a smaller appliance for the group. The front door hardware was corroded and wouldn’t latch or lock properly, though it was repaired during our week in June 2023. The other doors need servicing too. The master bath toilet clogged several times, with a plunger provided. The master closet lights were out, and the second-floor patio furniture was filthy. We were told on day one not to set the AC below 70 degrees because it’s monitored remotely and they’ll call if it triggers an alarm. The hot tub bubbles didn’t work, and its disconnected air pump motor and controls were on the ground behind the garage. I personally think the pool can only be used for running the filter pump. The remaining equipment is rotting and in disrepair, so I’m not sure heating it is really an option. We didn’t ask.

We spent a week here in June with 26 family members, and it was way overpriced. The outside needed major repairs and paint, and the lack of attention to detail was frustrating. The kitchen in the outbuilding wasn’t properly stocked, and its gas stove vent didn’t work, which didn’t seem up to code. The ice maker never worked, the refrigerator wouldn’t freeze food or make ice, and the outbuilding dryer wouldn’t close. I hope the owner pays closer attention to the details.

The friends and the vibe were the best part. The house itself was beautiful too.

We had a very happy family reunion here and are already planning to return next year. It works well for a big group, especially with six or more families or around 30 people to share the cost. I highly recommend The Commanders Palace for this kind of family trip.
