Silver Shells Beach Resort & Spa by Wyndham Vacation Rentals

We won’t stay at Silver Shells Beach Resort again, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone expecting respectful, professional service. My boyfriend had spent nearly $5,000 on several rooms for his little sister’s birthday, and since we live nearby, we drove over to surprise the family at the beach. We waited quietly with our family in the designated area we’d been told to use. Our wristbands were still upstairs in the family’s room because we planned to get them after the surprise, once we all went back inside together. A beach attendant came over demanding to see wristbands. We calmly explained that our family were paying guests and that the bands were in the room with their belongings. She didn’t listen or try to sort it out. Instead, she got rude and confrontational, making a loud scene that drew looks from other guests. No one explained the policy calmly, pointed us toward someone who could help, or offered a solution. We were made to feel like we didn’t belong, even though our family was staying there. As we left, we told her how upsetting and humiliating the encounter had been, especially given what our family had paid for this occasion. We asked her name. She said “Emily,” then laughed and smirked. When we explained how disappointed we were, she replied, “That sounds like a you problem.” There was no apology, attempt to calm things down, or accountability. Her behavior spoiled what should have been a meaningful family memory, and we’ll remember the public embarrassment more than the resort. For a place presenting itself as luxury, the service was deeply disappointing and appalling to us.

The resort itself is beautiful, the pool is fabulous, and everyone we dealt with was friendly and courteous. The hot tub was great until guests brought in children, including several under five who weren’t supposed to be allowed, and an infant who looked about two months old. Staff should keep an eye on it and enforce the posted rules. Our Beach Blue unit was another story. The rugs were filthy, paint was peeling around every kitchen cabinet knob, and the owners replaced two full size beds but left the old mattresses propped in front of the armoire all day. My sister and I had to drag them into the open air hallway just to reach our clothes and belongings. Getting around the buildings is confusing, and you need a key card. The private elevators don’t feel private either. If someone coming down from an upper floor stops when you press the button, the doors open and a stranger could step right into your unit if they wanted. I would stay again, but I’d pick a better unit. The photos can be deceiving.

I’ve been coming here with my family for over a decade, and we love the place so much we were looking into buying. All the Compass staff have been great, and I’ve referred countless people. But after my daughter and I were accosted by two very large men today, I called Compass and was told to contact a number that only helped owners. It just doesn’t feel safe anymore, so we won’t be back. I’ll also be filing a police report. Thanks for the memories.

The kids had a great time at the pool and playground. Our condo was beautiful, with outstanding views, and everything was clean, modern, and just as described. We really enjoyed staying there.
