ROOST Detroit

In just over a day at ROOST, the staff have given me more attentive support for my safety as a survivor of intimate partner violence than I've experienced anywhere I've stayed. They made me feel valued and wanted, showed that my safety matters, and backed up their words with several practical steps, both in response to my requests and on their own initiative. I'm deeply moved by the care they've shown. This has been a powerful, corrective experience that has brought back some hope that safe, dignified housing with caring staff is possible. Finding a safe place has felt almost impossible lately. Over the past two months, an ex I have a PPO against has left me abruptly displaced again and again. I've had to leave or scramble for somewhere safe at least four times, and most recently I had less than 24 hours to find a place. It's been extremely difficult to find housing that feels safe and has staff who listen and respond to a survivor's safety needs. At my previous place, even simple requests to help me feel safer seemed to be treated as unreasonable burdens. That only deepened the feeling that I was unwanted because of my survivorship. The circumstances around leaving my most recent home, along with these repeated upheavals, also made me feel that my safety and life didn't matter, as if they were disposable. There are nationwide gaps in safe housing for survivors, especially those at high risk. Survivors and advocacy groups whose shelters are full often rely on hotel stays to fill those gaps. In the short time I've been here, ROOST has shown how much a hotel can contribute. I wholeheartedly recommend staying here for all the reasons other reviewers have shared, and especially to any survivor looking for somewhere safe, with caring and attentive staff committed to their safety.

The dining was fantastic, with options to suit different moods, and we had a great time talking with the friendly staff, who gave us incredible service. We celebrated our 10th anniversary here, and the stay couldn't have gone better. The rooms are airy and spacious, with very high ceilings, and don't feel like typical hotel rooms. We'd been looking for a place downtown, and I think we've found it.

Dominic at the front desk was especially helpful and efficient. He made everything go smoothly, and his welcoming manner really stood out. We also found the room and shared spaces impeccably clean, which put us at ease right away. The Roost Detroit has a warm, stylish feel from the moment you enter, and we had a wonderful stay. It exceeded our expectations, and we'll be back next time we're in the city.
