Hampton Inn & Suites Silverthorne

The pool and hot tub were out of order on this winter visit, which was a bit disappointing. The hotel reimbursed us for daily trips to the Silverthorne rec center, though, and its family-friendly pool and big hot tub were great, so the alternative worked out fine. We've stayed here a few times in winter as a base for mountain activities, and it's always clean and quiet with friendly staff and the classic Hampton Inn hot breakfast. We had a great view from our room. I'm sure we'll be back.

The pool and hot tub being out of service was a big letdown for a ski-town hotel in mid-season. The sign said it had “just” happened and parts were on order, but it looked like that sign had been there for weeks or months. I get that things break, but a hot tub is a significant amenity here, and guests should get advance notice or some compensation. Otherwise, the stay was fine: easy access and check-in, a clean, well-maintained room, and the breakfast was what you'd expect. It could have been a four- or five-star stay.

Our car broke down in the parking lot, though we weren't staying at the hotel. John at the front desk was incredibly kind and understanding. He let my wife and me use the restrooms and offered us the lobby while we waited for the tow truck. He treated us just like guests. The world could use more people like John.

The hotel spaces themselves were good, and the person who checked us in was great. But be prepared to find a lot of things missing. After skiing, my family wanted hot cocoa. There was no hot water, and when it was replaced later, there was no cocoa either. The desk employee went to find some, leaving the desk unattended. The room had no lotion or shampoo. Hot water in the shower lasted just two minutes. We waited half an hour before trying again, and the next morning I timed it: with the water all the way up, I got 2:30 of warm water. At breakfast around 7:45, even though it starts at 6, the biscuits and gravy were gone. We were told they wouldn't make more. French toast sticks came out around 8:30 instead. A solid hotel, just short on almost everything.
