Dixon Motel

We picked this motel for a dog show in town, part pleasure and part business, because it advertised that it was pet friendly. We weren’t looking for anything fancy, just somewhere clean and safe, and it did provide those two main things. The room was adequate, and the place felt safe. There were only a few bulbs in the fixtures, and the refrigerator needed defrosting because it couldn’t freeze ice. I needed ice for a pulled muscle, and there was no ice machine. There wasn’t much space to walk the dogs, either. The manager came to collect another $10.00 per night per dog. That would have been okay if Bookit had disclosed the charge up front. I usually leave a generous tip for the maids when I have an animal with me and leave the room as clean as I can, but I didn’t this time. Parking wasn’t very good.

The owner was helpful and gave me a deal when I walked in without a reservation. The rooms were clean, and I could park right in front of mine. At 7, someone woke us by banging on our door over and over. It had nothing to do with management. I yelled at her, and she disappeared. When we opened the door, there was a new rubber mallet outside, so we kept it. Our car was still there in the morning, so it seemed like a good night.

The owners are strict about visitors and won’t let people disturb the other guests. For $100, you get a $100 room, so don’t expect more than you pay for. But the location is great. The Buckhorn is across the street, and a grocery store, 7-Eleven, Rite Aid, and Mexican restaurants are all within a two-minute walk. Whenever I need a room in Dixon, this is where I go.

The room smelled like someone had used the bathroom, and the towels had someone’s toothpaste on them. The sink was dirty, there were stains on the bed, and the pillowcases smelled bad. The guy said the odor was because there was no water in the sewer line, but if you knew the room smelled, why rent it out? The Wi-Fi didn’t work either. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place.
