University Hotel - Davis Area by IHG

The hotel is switching from Choice to IHG, and there was still updating going on during our stay. Even so, our room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Getting to I-80 was easy, and being just beyond Davis made Sacramento convenient to reach without being caught up in the traffic and busyness of either area. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. They also serve warm cookies around 3 pm, which was a nice touch. I was told the workout room is being updated, but at the time it had just three exercise machines, two of them out of order, and nothing else. Once the work is finished, this should be an ideal place. We'll definitely stay again when we visit.

The room had recently been repainted, though the update felt mostly cosmetic. Staff were accommodating and breakfast was pleasant. I found the hotel adequate, if a bit lackluster. The pool is quite small, and the area around the hotel felt somewhat barren.

The value here is hard to believe for the modest room rates. University Hotel Davis by IHG feels like a former Hampton Inn that's been carefully refreshed, and the rooms are spacious. The king bed was genuinely comfortable, and there was plenty of parking. A hot breakfast was included too. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, with two kinds of hot waffles, omelets, and even a patty for the bagel. There's a generous feel to the place, especially when so many hotels charge for every little convenience. The staff were naturally warm and efficient, and their professionalism made an already well-run hotel even better. It truly could not have been better, with comfort, friendliness, and value that would be hard to match for the price at other major chains, where resort fees and parking can cost extra.

Our room was spacious, quiet, and comfortable, and my sister, mom, and I all slept really well in the suite. The hotel was clean throughout, in a good location, and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was good too. The only other thing I wished for was a hot tub by the pool. There was a serious problem with the accessible suite I'd reserved for our wheelchair user. It was a ground-floor room with a roll-in shower, which mattered to us, but a water leak made it unavailable. The hotel knew before we arrived because maintenance had been working on it, yet I only learned at check-in. After our long drive, being offered cancellation with no fee as the only option was not acceptable. I got angry and stepped outside to calm down. When I came back, the employee had spoken to the manager, and they offered us an accessible suite on the second floor. It had a step-in tub and shower, but my mom was still able to shower in the first room with her wheelchair. That compromise was much appreciated and worked out great. Fortunately, there wasn't a fire alarm during the night, since we were on the second floor too. Thanks for finding a good solution. Next time, please have an alternative ready before the guest who needs the room with the leak arrives, instead of starting with “you can cancel.” Everything else about our stay was great.
