The Mill Inn and Cafe

The Mill gets the small-menu approach right: the food is excellent and carefully done. Prices had put me off for a while because I’d heard locals complain, but I found them about the same as, or even lower than, regular fast food. The atmosphere feels like fine dining without the high bill, and the interior is spot on. The staff and owners, both the previous and current ones, are delightful to talk with and gracious hosts. Stop in, you won’t be disappointed!

The cranberry orange muffin was especially tasty, and warming it up made it even better. We also loved the specialty coffee drinks. Service was quick, and both the food and coffee were really good for a morning stop in the area. The current owners are handing things over after this weekend, but they’ve done a great job up to then. Wishing them every success!

The coffee was amazing and the food was great, but what really won us over was the husband-and-wife chef team. They noticed my little guy eating bacon like corn on the cob, then chatted with him and learned he’s really interested in cooking and restaurants. They spent at least half an hour talking with us about the journey that brought them to Dover. Their kindness and welcoming manner have us eager to come back. Isaac and I have been watching lots of shows about food and the industry, so their knowledge of it all was especially neat.

The new management has made this a lovely spot. The warm, inviting ambiance and thoughtful decor go with wonderful food that’s presented beautifully. You can settle into a comfy chair with a latte and use the free WIFI, or order a full meal, both are exceptional. The Friday and Saturday seated dinners are a great addition, and the food is FIVE STARS. In warm weather, the outdoor seating overlooking the dam is beautiful. Fully recommend.
