Woodland Ridge Retreat

Tucked into the woods near the edge of town, Woodland Ridge Retreat Center has spacious bedrooms and lovely bathrooms with huge whirlpool tubs and walk-in showers. The classrooms are roomy too, with work and cutting tables, ironing stations, comfy chairs, individual lights, and plenty of outlets. Meals are fresh, tasty, and light, and they can accommodate individual dietary needs. Teachers known internationally enjoy being there, and some I’ve spoken with call it one of the best retreat centers they know. The newer quilt shop inside is high quality, and there are a couple of places to eat in town as well. It’s all good at Woodland Ridge.

The peaceful setting at Woodland Ridge Retreat comes with lovely walking trails for a break between projects. Chris Daly has clearly put care into creating this beautiful place and making guests feel welcome. Quilters have comfy accommodations and workrooms stocked with the tools and equipment needed for their craft.

I first found Woodland Ridge at a fabulous workshop in 2016, and I’ve been back several times a year ever since. The project room is a big draw, with excellent lighting, adjustable tables, and chairs that adjust too and support your back well. The workshops, led by true experts, are so interesting that choosing one can be hard. The place is immaculate, and all the accommodations are on one level. Beds are comfortable with good bedding, and the showers are roomy with strong pressure and plenty of hot water. Chris is a gracious host and lets guests cook in the commercial style kitchen if they prefer. The catered meals are delicious, and Downsville has three good restaurants just a short walk away. Looking forward to the next retreat.

The workshop pushed me to try new things, and I came away with new skills and a better understanding of the creative process. It was my first quilt retreat, and I was sorry to leave. Being at Woodland Ridge felt like a break from the responsibilities waiting at home, especially with such interesting people to sew alongside. Thanks for making this space.
