Hotel Julien Dubuque

I’ve visited at least 10 times in the past year, and this is much better than the other downtown hotel options I’ve tried. The spacious fitness and pool area is high quality, and the bathrooms are awesome. There’s no microwave in the room, but I eat out most nights and there are plenty of nearby choices. It does a great job combining historical ambiance with modern amenities, and it’s a great value.

We come here about once a year, and every visit is a treat. We love the staff, location, and atmosphere at Hotel Julien. The old-fashioned, beautiful bar and Caroline’s breakfast are things we look forward to. Tonight, a technical glitch with the online booking came up, which I blame on my phone. I called the hotel and an actual human answered immediately, which feels rare these days. The receptionist was so, so helpful and worked hard to get our annual mommy and daddy birthday-date-night in Dubuque booked. I can’t say enough good things about the customer service here. I’ve stayed at many hotels across the states, and this is by far the best. Well done!

The old mail chute was such a cool detail, and I loved the historical look and feel of the place. It felt like spending a night in a movie, and I didn’t want to leave. The traditional foyer and lounge were comfortable, and the real fireplace was relaxing. We enjoyed everything and will be back. Thanks for offering such a great hotel!

We booked a Premium King room with a kitchen and sofa for three adults. There were only two robes and two glasses, and the kitchen had just a small pan. They didn’t have a bigger one when we asked so we could make spaghetti. There also weren’t any complimentary bottles of water. I’d bring your own rather than drink from the sink. The sofa bed mattress was so thin it would kill your back after two nights. Its sheets were dirty and had a blood stain, but the hotel changed them after we reported it. I hadn’t checked the photos beforehand, so I was surprised there wasn’t a dining table, just a bar with three tall chairs. Otherwise, the hotel was just okay.
