We only made it about five hours into a weeklong booking. After checking in at 7 pm, I found roaches on the bathroom floor and in the walls of the room when I got up to use the restroom at 2 am. We checked out right then. The front desk acted as if the roaches were no big deal, and there were no apologies. They seemed to think I was being crazy. They tried to deny a refund, so I had to insist, and they still kept the cost of one night. Since the location isn't a major destination, there weren't staff at other hotels to check us in. My wife and I ended up spending New Year's night sleeping in our car. Roaches can cause problems if one somehow comes along with you. Don't stay here.

There are plenty of useful places nearby, including a gas station, dollar store, and a few restaurants. The rates are affordable, and the place was clean. I enjoyed my stay, and everyone was very friendly and polite.

The remodeled rooms were the highlight for me: spacious, clean, comfortable, and stocked with everything we needed. Our room was easy to get to, and check-in at 1 am went smoothly. There's mowed grass where we could walk our dog. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked staying here. It's pet friendly, and our super outgoing pitbull was greeted by two beautiful cats snoozing at the check-in entrance. They live there with their owners.

A wonderful mountain view right outside the door, plus very friendly staff and other guests. The motel was extremely clean, and the rooms had just been remodeled, which made for a very comfortable weeklong stay. I was exploring Black Mountian KY and looking at property in Gate City Va. I loved being able to support a small town business instead of staying at a chain hotel that could care less about your stay.
