The next morning, customer service called to ask how our stay was. I explained what had happened, and they handled it very well: they apologized, moved me into a lovely room next to my daughter’s, and comped our second night. That follow-up deserves a fifth star. For the property and amenities alone, I’d give the stay four stars, but the way they made things right really mattered. We were the only guests on the property and had booked two rooms, one for my daughter and one for me. There are five rooms in the main house and one over the garage. On arrival, we had to call customer service to work out how to get into the rooms. The room in the main house was very nice, so I gave it to my daughter. Mine was over the garage, and it was completely unacceptable: a strong bug spray smell, old carpet, and a bathtub in the middle of the room covered in plastic. It didn’t feel fit to be part of a “mansion”, more like somewhere a struggling college student might stay. I couldn’t reach anyone at customer service that night, so I slept in my daughter’s room.

The only real drawback was the iffy WiFi. Otherwise, everything was really good. Angie and her husband have done a great job maintaining the place. Angie welcomed us when we arrived. I learned her name after getting curious about the management and reading their story. Our room was very clean and cozy, and the jacuzzi was huge if that’s your thing. The surroundings are beautiful, with deer roaming around the neighborhood, and we enjoyed the sunrise view. The hotel felt like home, with lovely decor in the room and common areas and a relaxing atmosphere. You can sit downstairs by the fireplace with classical music and a book, or have your coffee in the sunroom in the morning.

We came away from just a weekend at the property feeling completely rejuvenated. The staff paid impressive attention to detail, and this charming relic from a bygone era was a treat to experience. We couldn’t be more satisfied and already have another trip to the Salyard Mansion in mind.

The house was just as described, and our room was adorable with a very comfy bed. It’s close to everything we wanted to do, and there were extra towels and washcloths in a hallway basket. The pastries were so-so, and there weren’t any to-go coffee cups, but we weren’t there for the food. We’d definitely stay again.
